UGS Matheson Wetland and Northern Spanish Valley Groundwater Resources Report

The Utah Geological Survey has completed their Matheson Wetland and Northern Spanish Valley Groundwater Resources Study and presented their findings to the MAWP and the May 15 MAWP meeting. The MAWP facilitator has summary of the findings and they are presented in this articles text.

November meeting at the MARC

It is the first of November and I wanted to remind you that our MAWP meeting is just two weeks away! It will be held on Wednesday the 15th from 1 to 3 at the MARC. November’s meeting focuses on water year monitoring results and we will have a discussions on E. coli and other MAWP Sampling Analysis Plan monitoring results, USGS Water year highlights Harmful Algal Blooms both monitoring and an informational/educational presentation, A discussion on how measure success of our stream restoration projects, And a couple of updates on projects we didn’t get to at the last meeting. Looks to me like another full agenda! I’ll send a formal agenda out on Monday prior to the meeting. If you have any agenda items you would like to discuss, please let me know.

September 20 meeting to be held at the MARC!

Howdy Friends of the MAWP! We will be having our regularly scheduled MAWP meeting on Wednesday, September 20, from 1 to 3 at the Moab Arts and Recreation Center. The usual agenda item for September is project updates. We have about 16 projects in our watersheds that are partners are performing. It should be a great opportunity to hear what is going on in your waterways! See the MAWP website for a detailed agenda under the about then archives tab!

May MAWP Meeting Will Be In Person

Howdy friends of Moab Watersheds. The March meeting of the MAWP will be held in person at the Moab Arts and Recreation Center from 1 to 3 on Wednesday May 18. Please join us if you are able. We will be hearing updates on ALL the Emergency Watershed Program stream alteration plans infrastructure compromised by the flooding after the Pack Creek fire. Updates to this Website

December 21, 2021
This website has recently been updated to include final reports for the Bureau of Land Management’s Mill Creek Restoration Phase IV and Rim to Rim’s Mill and Pack Creek Revegetation Phase I project. These projects only represent some of the excellent stream restoration efforts supported by the MAWP. The reports are under the About and then the Projects tab on this website. The latest minutes and agendas have also been updated.

Howdy Moab Area Watershed enthusiasts, Public meeting on April 16 at the Grand County Library. Discussion from 5:30 to 6:00 and public comment period from 6:00 to 7:00 The meeting is on changing the recreation use designation from 2B, recreational contact to 2A Swimming. The discussion will be which segments of the Mill and Pack Creek will be changed.

Building upon Moab’s strong commitment to ensure the efficient and responsible use of our natural resources, the City will be hosting a Water Conservation Workshop aimed at lowering residential and business water use. Experts will be available to discuss trees and plant selection, irrigation techniques, Moab Area Water Partnership projects, water rates, green infrastructure, water right adjudication, local initiatives including the Bee-Inspired Gardens Group and the Community Water Challenge Contest, and Water Treatment Plant updates.

The Utah Watershed Coordinating Council (UWCC) provides grants to local watershed groups across the state for information and education based projects. MAWP was one of the recipients of these grants in 2012 and used the funding to develop an informative brochure. Utah State University Water Quality Extension launches a new program entitled Utah Water Watch.
